für Aoud und Gitarre

Über die maurische Besetzung der iberischen Halbinsel, von den ersten Okkupationen an der Meerenge von Gibraltar bis hin zum Fall Cordobas im Jahre 1492,  gibt es zahlreiche Literatur. Tatsächlich hat diese lange Zeit unter orientalischer Hegemonie wesentlich die spanische Kunst und Kulturlandschaft gestaltet … und sie tut es bis heute.

Drei kurze Arbeitsaufnahmen versuchen eine Annäherung an die uralte Kunst des Saitenspiels die wir - ohne die Araber - wohl niemals hätten in so filigraner Vielfalt erleben dürfen.

Im Zentrum steht das Gitarrenwerk Arabesca des spanischen Gitarristen und Komponisten Paco Peña. Die Komposition wurde eingespielt auf einer Gitarre aus dem Jahre 1936 von Richard Wolfram aus Markneukirchen. Das Instrument ist vollständig mit Darmsaiten bespannt und wird ohne Fingernägel, im sogenannten Kuppenanschlag gespielt. Die Komposition von Paco Peña steht im maqâm Hijaz (auf d). Dieser maqâm gehört zu den wenigen maqamât, die mit einer westlichen Skaleneinteilung gespielt werden können.

Ganz anders die flankierenden Werke in den traditionellen orientalischen maqamât Râst und Dâsht. Hier ist ein bundloses Lauteninstrument, eine Aoud,  zwingend notwendig (traditionell gespielt auf diesen Aufnahmen mit der Adlerfeder als Plektrum).

The Moorish occupation of the Iberian peninsula, from the first conquerations of the Straits of Gibraltar to the fall of Cordoba in 1492, has resulted in a great deal of literature. In fact, this long period of oriental hegemony has essentially shaped or influenced Spanish art... and it still does.

Three short work recordings attempt to approach the age-old art of playing plucked-instruments which we, without the Arabs, would have never experienced in such filigree diversity.

The focus is on the guitar work Arabesca by the Spanish guitarist and composer Paco Peña. The composition was recorded on a historical guitar from 1936 made by the luthier Richard Wolfram from Markneukirchen. The instrument is complete with gut strings covered and played without fingernails, in the so-called Kuppenanschlag. The composition of Paco Peña is in the maqâm Hijaz (on d). This maqâm is one of the few maqamât that can be played with a western scale division.

Quite different are the flanking works in the traditional Oriental maqamât Râst and Dâsht. Here a fretless lute instrument, an aoud, is absolutely necessary (traditionally played on this recording with the eagle feather as plectrum).
